  1. Thank you for ordering the CompuServe Information Manager for Windows - 
  2. WinCIM(sm).
  3.  
  4. Although a brief manual is included with this version, a rich context-
  5. sensitive Help feature can also be accessed from any area of WinCIM 
  6. by hitting the F1 key.
  7.  
  8. You can obtain information on the current status of WinCIM by accessing 
  9. the GO WINCIM area on CompuServe.  This area contains information 
  10. related to the status of WinCIM.  You can also obtain help and support 
  11. through the WinCIM Support Forum (GO WCIMSUPPORT).  This forum is 
  12. devoted to WinCIM and is staffed by representatives from CompuServe's 
  13. Customer Service department.

  15. WinCIM 1.0 Information:
  16.  
  17. * An electronic version of the CompuServe Directory, which provides a 
  18. summary description of each of the more than 1,700 services on  
  19. CompuServe, is available from the WinCIM Help pulldown menu.  Once
  20. you find a service you are interested in, just click on the Service Name 
  21. and WinCIM will "GO" to that service.
  22.  
  23. * Two special features on the edit pulldown menu, "Copy To" and "Paste 
  24. From," make it easy to compose mail and forum messages using text from 
  25. online articles, messages already in the member's in basket or filing 
  26. cabinet, or from text files on the member's disk.

  28. * A "Copy Original" button on the CompuServe Mail envelope (recipent 
  29. list) can be used when replying to Mail messages.  This features allows 
  30. you to send your reply to everyone on the original distribution list.

  32. * WinCIM "looks" at the text in menus and articles and determines if the 
  33. data is column data.  If WinCIM detects that the information contains 
  34. column data, it will switch into a fixed font (so the information will 
  35. line up properly).  You can switch between the fixed and proportional 
  36. font by choosing the "Fixed Font" option from the Edit pulldown menu (or 
  37. you can use Cntrl-T).

  39. * Special features in WinCIM can be accessed by modifying items in 
  40. the WINCIM.INI file.  See the file WC-INI.TXT in the WinCIM Support 
  41. Forum (GO WCIMSUPPORT) for additional details.

  43. * Users of V32/V42 modems should turn off their modem's error correction 
  44. (unless you use WinCIM's terminal emulation frequently and are 
  45. experiencing bad phone connections).  This will allow you to get better 
  46. data throughput.  How to disable your modem's error correction should be 
  47. documented in your modem manual.

  49. * International keyboard characters (ISO Latin-1) can be used in WinCIM.
  50. This capability allows WinCIM users to send CompuServe Mail and Forum
  51. messages that contain international characters.  There are some known
  52. limitations to using these characters.  For additional information
  53. about this topic, see the file WC-8BIT.TXT in the "General" Library
  54. of the WinCIM Support Forum (GO WCIMSUPPORT).

  57. Known limitations of WinCIM Version 1.0.1:
  58.  
  59. * The WinCIM ribbon (button bar at the top of the window) has changed
  60. slightly from the one shown in the documentation.  There is now a "Browse
  61. Services" button on the ribbon.  The Mail button now only appears if 
  62. there is mail waiting for you (to signal you have mail waiting).  
  63. Once you are online, a "disconnect" button will also appear.

  65. * The Portfolio report that is included in DOS CIM 2.0 is not currently 
  66. implemented.  This feature is scheduled for implementation after the 
  67. release of version 1.0.

  69. * The Favorite Places information is always maintained in alphabetical 
  70. order.

  72. * Mail messages placed in the outbasket can not be sent by DOS CIM.

  74. * DOS CIM's "%" syntax for address book sorting is not supported.
